如果要找一位风格相似的艺人来形容Kate St. John确实不是很容易的事情。
在风格上横跨流行，爵士，民谣，古典等各个领域，
而使用的乐器除了传统的流行乐三大件——吉他贝司鼓之外，
还包括了钢琴，小提琴，中提琴，萨克思，长笛，管风琴，曼托林等。
相对于以爵士流行曲称霸葛莱美的Norah Jones而言，Kate St. John的音乐更加内向而寂静，
在旋律上的民谣走向和前者也并非一个套路；
而相对于英国众多城市民谣女歌手的流畅曲风而言，Kate St. John更有一分出世的古典气质，
在编曲上更显严谨和典雅的欧陆色彩。尽管如此参与专辑的乐手众多，使用的乐器也琳琅满目，
音乐编排的层次也丰富多变，但每首曲目都显示出了“因简约而唯美”的精神，干净而毫不晦涩。

Kate ST. John 真是一个才女，来自英国的她，依然放弃了她的古典音乐专业训练，
80年代中期跟随 Dream Academy 乐队一起成为流行乐界的明星，Kate 在各音乐流派里游刃自如，
成为英国十分受欢迎的现场演奏家。她曾经跟 Tears For Fears、Morrissey 等乐队/艺人合作，
最近更成为 Van Morrison 的现场演出的永久成员之一，负责双簧管、萨斯管和人声部分。
Kate 那天使般的声音和纯熟的木管演奏，是整个乐队诱人魅力的不可或缺的一部分。

The Dream Academy 本来就是一个三人超级组合，三人（包括Kate）皆包办多项乐器及编排，
出了三张专辑後主唱 Nick Laird-Clones 跑到西藏去潜修，今年才化名Trashmonk 出了一张专辑，
但Kate 可一点也没闲著，先和 Roger Eno（Britan Eno 弟弟）及Laraaji
知性结他手Bill Nelson出了两张以“Channel Light Vesse”l为名的唱片，
也单独和 Roger Eno 合作以「The Familiar 」为名的唱片。
在合作的同时 Kate 除了参与乐器演奏及制作外也开始尝试走向幕前演唱。

如诗般的紫蓝色歌词，听似简单实则繁复的乐器编排构成的优闲曲风，
加上她清新脱俗的唱腔成了一张张英国小镇的明信片。虽然有点晚了，但现在认识她还不迟。
